"It's a way to make a positive difference in people's lives," Richard Hasley comments when asked why he became an attorney. Born and raised in Tipton, Oklahoma, Richard Hasley grew up with solid values some now consider old-fashioned. Values like integrity, honesty, hard work, and compassion for the less fortunate. After receiving his law degree in 1968, he began helping individuals defend their rights. With a background that includes extensive business management, he is also uniquely qualified to advise corporate clients on wise legal strategy.

What you like about the law: I like helping people who've been wronged. The law is a structure that is intended to bring justice to an unjust situation. While justice doesn't always result, I do everything in my power to ensure that it does. On the other hand, the law also serves as a blueprint for getting things done. For example it provides the parameters necessary to start new businesses that in turn create new jobs. I like making good things happen and the law is simply the vehicle I use.

On choosing a lawyer: I encourage people to do some research before they select an attorney. Look for someone with a great deal of experience because they don't teach experience in law school. Ask the lawyer if they've handled cases like yours. Find a lawyer that takes your case seriously and is willing to fight for you. Finally, find a lawyer who makes you feel comfortable. Sometimes the legal process can take a while and it really helps if you like your advocate!

Are you generally looking to settle a case or do you like going to court? That depends on the case. A fair and just settlement is usually in the client's best interest but a good attorney must always be ready to "take 'em to court." There are times when justice demands a courtroom and if that's the case, I'm ready.

What makes your job rewarding? Proving to a client that the legal system truly works is the most rewarding aspect of being a lawyer. Being an advocate for a wronged spouse or providing an estate plan that protects for a client's family. There is nothing more gratifying than receiving a well-earned, heartfelt thank you from a client.

How would you characterize your practice: Commitment and caring. I won't take a case unless I believe that I can achieve the best possible result for my client. But when someone becomes my client, I'm a zealous advocate for their cause. Whether family law, a personal injury, or perhaps a business contract, I want to make absolutely certain that my client gets everything they are entitled to.
